Phase 1 comprises 64 acres of the plan.

E2PM was hired by the Landscape Contractor, whom has a design-build contract to implement various Phase I Park Areas. E2PM’s initial tasks were to provide design and structural engineering for the various playground unique structures, both in the Hammock Grove Play Area and for the Soissons Landing Area.

Soissons Landing serves as the arrival point/gateway for Governors Island ferries. The design for Soissons Landing improves the functioning of this important hub by sorting and easing circulation through the space, and providing flat areas along the slope for seating and bicycle racks. A key feature for the Soissons Landing is a row of custom designed park benches that form a signature element for the public entering the park. E2PM supported the preparation of the unique shop drawings and also performed the structural design for the bench frames and foundations.
